This training module is an 18 hour workshop intended for professionals working with children who have hearing loss. The curriculum consists mostly of hands-on activities, discussions and some lecture. Some of the highlights are:
- types of hearing loss
- how to read an audiogram
- hearing loss simulation
- opportunities to troubleshoot hearing aids, cochlear implants and FM systems (thanks to generous equipment donations made by Phonak Canada and Cochlear Corporation of Canada)
- community resources in BC for families of children who have hearing loss
- the importance of non-biased presentation of information about communication methodologies
- effects of hearing loss on development
- inclusion of the child with hearing loss
- how to adapt the home or preschool environment to make it more accessible to a child with hearing loss
